Built in the 50's and 60's, Drumchapel was one of Glasgow's largest peripheral housing estates and is located in the North West corner of the city of Glasgow.
Population peaked at around 35,000 but due to the collapse of the traditional industries in the 70's, declined to under 18,000 by the early 1990's.
Drumchapel suffers from high levels of unemployment, poor housing conditions, and poor health.Almost 50% of households with children are headed by lone parents.
Young people make up a significant proportion of the population although destination from school for further or higher education is poor.
OpportunitiesThrough the development of the Great Western Retail Park and The Business Village, employment in Drumchapel has increased by 900 to around 3,300 jobs.
Drumchapel secured Social Inclusion Partnership Status early 1999.
Drumchapel Business Village is anticipated to create 400 to 500 new jobs.
New Neighbourhood Development plans agreed and Drumchapel's submission is the city's top priority.
